This International Standard specifies two types of calibrating injectors intended for testing and setting diesel fuel injection pumps on test benches. It applies to a) calibrating injectors for different orifice plates, max. delivery range 400 mm/stroke; b) calibrating injectors with pintle type nozzle, max. delivery range 200 mm/stroke. The field of application is similar to the calibrating injectors specified in ISO 7440-1 and to the calibrating nozzle specified in ISO 4010. Compared to the calibrating injector specified in ISO 7440-1, the calibrating injectors specified in this International Standard represent an advanced stage of design which is more appropriate to modern high pressure/high performance fuel injection systems. Specification of the type of calibrating fuel injectors to be used, the appropriate single hole orifice plate size or pintle nozzle (as applicable), high pressure pipes, exact limits, etc. is left to the manufacturer of the injection equipment and/or the manufacturer of the engine.

This part of ISO 4548 specifies tests for determining the performance of full-flow lubricating oil filters for internal combustion engines as follows. Section 2: Initial particle retention efficiency. This gives the test procedures and parameters for the determination of the initial particle retention efficiency of lubricating oil filter elements under defined test conditions. By reporting the results in accordance with subclause 2.6, the probable retention efficiency for any particle size may be derived. The retention efficiency is determined by the gravimetric method. Section 3: Life and cumulative efficiency. This gives the test procedures and parameters for the determination of element life and cumulative efficiency of lubricating oil filters. The cumulative efficiency is determined by the gravimetric method. NOTE —By agreement between filter manufacturer and purchaser, tests on large filters can be conducted on the basis of tests carried out on filters scaled-down in length. The relationship of the filter flow and test dust addition rate to the effective length of the filter medium should be the same in the scaled-down tests as in the full size filter. For the purposes of this part of ISO 4548, a filter having a test flow rate exceeding 100 l/min is considered large.

1.1 This test method covers the evaluation of the shear stability of polymer-containing fluids. The test method measures the percent viscosity loss at 100186C of polymer-containing fluids when evaluated by a diesel injector apparatus procedure that uses European diesel injector test equipment. The viscosity loss reflects polymer degradation due to shear at the nozzle. Note 1-Test Method D 2603 has been used for similar evaluation of shear stability; limitations are as indicated in the significance statement. No detailed attempt has been undertaken to correlate the results of this test method with those of the sonic shear test method. Note 2-This test method uses test apparatus as defined in CEC L-14-A-93. This test method differs from CEC-L-14-A-93 in the period of time required for calibration. Note 3-Test Method D5275 also shears oils in a diesel injector apparatus but may give different results. Note 4-This test method has different calibration and operational requirements than Test Method D 3945. 1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific precautionary statements are given in Section 8.
