This part of IEC 61834 specifies the content, format and recording method for the data blocks forming the helical records on the tape containing audio, video and system data. This part describes the specifications for the recording of single DVB programmes. The DVB data is delivered to the digital video cassette recorder via a digital interface or by a built-in tuner (IRD). The DVB data consist of an MPEG2 transport stream containing one or more programmes. In DVB, the MPEG2 MP@ML is specified to encode the video signal. The maximum bit rate for the video signal is 15 Mbps. One programme may consist of one video bit stream or several audio bit streams and data bit streams. Due to the varied bit rates of single DVB programmes, several recording modes are specified in order to make efficient use of the storage capacity of the digital video cassette recorder. In addition to the normal play data stream of DVB recording, one or two special trick play data streams may optionally be generated and recorded in the video area. In this part 9, the data structure of a track is defined by APT = 000b which consists of four areas as described in 4.3.2 of IEC 61834-1 and API = AP3 = 000b. The data structure of MIC is the same as in clause 10 of IEC 61834-2.

This International Standard specifies a digital time and control code for use in television, film, and accompanying audio systems operating at 30, 25, and 24 frames per second. Clauses 4, 5, and 6 specify the manner in which time is represented in frame-based systems. Clause 7 describes the structure of the time address and control bits of the code, and sets guidelines for storage of user data in the code. Clause 8 specifies the modulation method and interface characteristics of a linear time code (LTC) source. Clause 9 specifies the modulation method for inserting the code into the vertical interval of a television signal. Clause 10 summarizes the relationship between the two forms of time and control code.

While all DVCRs must have the capability of recording and/or playback in SD (SP) mode, this extension is optional. For this part 7, the data track structure of a track is defined by APT = 000b which consists of four areas as described in 4.3.2 of IEC 61834-1, and AP1 = AP2 = AP3 = 000b. While all DVCRs must have the capability of recording and/or playback in SD (SP) mode, PALplus capability is optional. There are two methods for recording the PALplus signal on a DVCR: - method 1: record the partially encoded PALplus signal; - method 2: record the completely decoded PALplus signal. This part is concerned with "Method 1" (baseband helper recording) as this requires an extension to the DVCR SD specification IEC 61834-2. For "Method 2" the DVCR is equipped with a built-in PALplus decoder and the SD specification IEC 61834-2 applies unchanged.

This International Standard specifies the content, format and recording method of the data blocks containing video, audio and associated data which form the helical records on 6,35 mm tape in cassettes, as specified in SMPTE 306M. In addition, this standard specifies the content, format and recording method for longitudinal cue and control tracks. One video channel and two independent audio channels are recorded in the digital format. Each of these channels is designed to be capable of independent editing. The video channel records and reproduces a component television signal in the 525-line system with a frame frequency of 29,97 Hz (hereinafter referred to as 525/60 system) and the 625-line system with a frame frequency of 25,00 Hz (hereinafter referred to as the 625/50 system). Prior to recording, the digital video signal is compressed to a DV based 25 Mb/s bit stream, as specified in SMPTE 314M.
