These requirements cover electric-battery-powered industrial trucks@ such as tractors@ platform-lift trucks@ fork-lift trucks@ and other vehicles designed for specific industrial uses@ with respect to a risk of fire@ electric shock@ and explosion. These requirements do not cover such electric-battery-powered industrial trucks with respect to other possible risks that may be associated with the use of such trucks. These requirements cover batteries intended for use in the electric-battery-powered industrial trucks mentioned in 1.1@ with respect to the risk of fire@ electric shock@ and explosion. Electric-battery-powered industrial trucks covered by these requirements are identified as follows: a) Type E ?C An electric truck having minimum acceptable safeguards against an inherent risk of fire and electric shock. b) Type ES ?C An electric truck that in addition to having all of the safeguards of a Type E truck is provided with additional safeguards to the electrical system to prevent emission of hazardous sparks and to limit surface temperatures. c) Type EE ?C An electric truck provided with safeguards in addition to those required for Type E electric trucks. d) Type EX ?C An electric truck for use in hazardous locations@ Class I@ Group D and Class II@ Group G@ as defined in Article 500 of the National Electrical Code. These requirements cover Types E@ EE@ ES@ and EX electric-battery-powered industrial trucks powered by batteries supplying 150 volts or less. A product that contains features@ characteristics@ components@ materials@ or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard@ and that involves a risk of fire@ electric shock@ or injury to persons shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features@ characteristics@ components@ materials@ or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard cannot be judged to comply with this standard. Where considered appropriate@ revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development@ revision@ and implementation of this standard.
