Scope and object This section of Chapter 2 specifies rules for@ and the application of@ thermal detectors and their associated control units (when used)@ which initiate a switching function in thermal protection systems incorporated in rotating electrical machines in accordance with the requirements of IEC Publication 34-11 : Rotating Electrical Machines@ Part 11 : Built-in Thermal Protection@ Chapter 1: Rules for Protection of Rotating Electrical Machines. Note. ?? The thermal directors and control units may be of the automatically resetting or manually resetting types. However@ automatically resetting detectors and control units should only be used in a thermal protection system which requires the manual restoration of power after tripping on machine overloads. Use in systems which provide automatic restoration of power to the machine necessitates safety precautions and should be subject to special agreement between the manufacturers of the machine and the control system.
