Specification for installation of domestic-sized gas meters maximum rated capacity not exceeding 6 m3/h (2nd and 3rd family gases) - Low pressure (2nd family gases)
The standard is applicable to the installation, exchange, relocation and removal of low pressure installations for primary and secondary meters not exceeding a flow rate of 6 m/h and covers installations that incorporate diaphragm (up to G4/U6) and electronic (E6) meters. Low pressure gas networks in Great Britain operate with a maximum operating pressure of less than 75 mbar and a maximum incidental pressure of 200 mbar.
Requirements for service pipes (including the first emergency control valve) are dealt with in the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers Recommendations IGE/TD/4 Gas Services [9].
The installation of pipework is specified in BS 6891.
An installation, to this standard, provides a zone 2 hazardous area as defined in BS EN 60079-10.
NOTE 1 Attention is drawn to the fact that the installation of gas meters is covered by the Gas Safety (Installations and Use) Regulations 1998 [1] and persons using this standard should therefore be fully conversant with those regulations.
Where this standard is used for the installation of a primary meter, reference should be made to the Ofgas Code of Practice COP/la [10].
NOTE 2 All pressures quoted in this standard are gauge pressures unless otherwise specified.
